Overview — BioLet Composting Toilet 30NE
Non-Electric Waterless Toilet
Designed for locations where reliable electricity is not available, the BioLet 30NE is the perfect choice for the rustic cabin, hunting camp, or house off the grid. The BioLet 30NE is also a great choice for applications supplied by solar power where the additional load of the electric models may be too much for your solar system. A 12VDC fan can easily be added to the ventilation system.
Rated at 3 people full-time use and 4 people part-time use, the BioLet 30NE’s capacity can be increased by adding optional composting bins. Each bin increases the capacity of the system by 2-3 people. When a compost bin fills, just remove the bin and move it outside for further composting and place the next bin inside the unit.
Equipped with a convenient drain tube, the BioLet 30NE drains off any excess liquids to an auxiliary container, French drain or leach field. Since liquids are not a limiting factor, the BioLet 30NE will allow for applications where a larger capacity may be needed.
Its proven batch composting system combined with constant air circulation proves an excellent solution to almost any situation. It separates liquid from solid waste. A very appealing design and simplicity of use, makes the BioLet 30NE a great choice!
As with all toilets sold by BioLet Toilet Systems the BioLet 30NE is easy to install by anyone with basic handyman knowledge in just a couple hours with common household tools.
Technical specifications:
- 25 ½”H x 21 ¾”W x 29 ½”D
- 12V fan optional
How does Biolet Work?
BioLet unites the natural composting process with advanced technology accelerating and optimizing biological decomposition, evaporating excess liquid and exhausting odors… all within an elegant bathroom fixture that is easy to use and economical to operate.
The closed-system BioLet toilets are fully automatic electric toilets that anticipate your every move! Sitting on the toilet seat opens the trap doors; closing the toilet seat lid activates the stainless steel mixing mechanism that efficiently breaks down paper and distributes moisture into the compost material in the upper chamber. Material in the upper chamber is finished in the lower chamber and eventually emptied. The BioLet 65 features LED maintenance indicators to let you know when it is time to empty the lower chamber. The non-composted portion and the dry, composted portion are kept separate.
A fan circulates warm air under and around the compost for fast decomposition and evaporation of liquid. A float switch operates an additional bottom heater if excess liquid is detected. Once a week or as needed, mulch is added through the toilet seat opening.
Using energy efficient Swedish technology, electrical consumption is very low with an adjustable power setting, which is adjusted according to the number of people using the toilet. When you are away for more than two days, just turn off your BioLet!

FAQs — BioLet Composting Toilet 30NE
Q: What makes BioLet composting toilets so efficient?
Answer: BioLet toilets have a patented recirculating air process that provide the maximum amount of air throughout the composting material. The aerobic bacteria, which cause the decomposition, thrive in oxygen rich environments. Feeding more air to these bacteria is just like feeding more air to a fire, it's going to compost hotter and faster.
Q: Is it ok to add urine to a BioLet composting toilet?
Answer: Yes, urine is perfectly ok to add. In the electric models the liquids are evaporated off and the vapors are vented out through the ventilation pipe. With the non-electric BioLet 30NE, all the liquids are separated from the solid waste and drained off through the supplied drain tube.
Q: Can I make my own compost mix?
Answer: Use of only BioLet approved compost mix is recommended. Approved mulches will carry the BioLet logo. Using any other mulch may cause a decrease in the efficiency of your toilet and may void the warranty on mixer parts if their failure is determined to be caused by usage of unapproved mulch.
Q: Will there be odors outside the building?
Answer: A properly installed and maintained composting toilet should not create any more odors than a conventional toilet systems vent pipe. Therefore, there should be no noticeable odors, even outside the building where the toilet is installed.
Q: Is the new waste that is added to the composting toilet mixed with the old waste that is already partially composted?
Answer: No, in all BioLet composting toilets newly deposited human waste and partly decomposed materials are not being mixed together as is done in other composting toilets. This is one of the main reasons that BioLet's end-product is very safe to handle.
Q: What does the term 'automated liquid controls' mean in the BioLet 65 description, and how does it work?
Answer: The automated liquid controls in the BioLet 65 is a combination of a thermostatically controlled heater and a float switch. The thermostat is set manually to maintain the liquids for "normal" usage. In the event that there is additional liquid build up in the tray, the float switch will detect these liquids and force the heater to the next higher setting until the liquids are evaporated.
Q: Does the room temperature need to be maintained at a certain point for the BioLet composting toilet to work?
Answer: During periods while the unit is in use, the ambient room temperature needs to be maintained above 64F. Whenever the unit is not going to be used for more than 2 days, you can let the temperature drop below 64F.
Q: Is there anything that needs to be added to the toilet to help with the composting process?
Answer: Yes, a compost mix is required to promote aerobic decomposition. This mulch is essentially a mixture of peat moss and pine wood shavings combined with carefully selected compost activating ingredients . Addition of 1/2 cup after each fecal use or 1 quart per person per week will provide the proper amount of carbon and bulking agent to achieve optimum composting.
Q: Do you have to see the waste when you look into the toilet?
Answer: No, all BioLet composting toilets are equipped with a compost cover, that hides the human waste from view and opens automatically when sitting on the toilet.
Q: Can I use regular toilet tissue with a BioLet composting toilet?
Answer: Yes, you can! Some toilet papers compost faster than others, but all major brands are ok to use.
Q: Do BioLet composting toilets have problems with worms, flies, or other bugs?
Answer: No, a properly installed and maintained BioLet has no problems with worms, flies, or other bugs. The CO2 emissions produced by the aerobic (oxygen fueled) composting process are a deterrent to bugs.On the other hand, anaerobic (oxygenless) processes found in outhouses and septic systems produce gases which attract these problems.
